Business case: National Car Rental
National Car Rental has been a leader in the car rental industry for over 50 years, with 3000 locations in more than 75 countries throughout the world.
In the Benelux, National has offices in major cities such as Amsterdam and Brussels, and rental desks at every airport: Amsterdam Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport, Brussels Zaventem, Maastricht Aachen Airport, and Luxemburg Airport.
Server Based Computing
In 2003, GlidePath and its partner Aucon (www.aucon.com) have implemented a Server Based Computing (SBC) environment called NatNet to deliver business applications to the end-users. Applications such as RentPro (www.carprosystems.com) and Globe2000 (www.exact.nl) are very business critical to National and are supported by GlidePath on a 24x7 basis. But also the office automation software such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Exchange are hosted on the platform and managed by GlidePath.
Service Desk
GlidePath provides a service desk to National end-users for all their IT-issues. This service desk can be contacted 24x7 for incidents related to the network, clients, printers and applications. If necessary, GlidePath contacts the appropriate supplier or partner to resolve the problem.
Availability Management
The NatNet systems, databases and applications are monitored by the GlidePath Operations Engine (GOE) to check availability and stability. In case of outages, our operators in the Managed Service Center (MSC) will be informed automatically by the GOE software. They will execute a predefined runbook to restore the business process availability. This can vary from resetting a system to implementing a fail-over scenario to a different platform or location.
Capacity and Performance Management
GlidePath has implemented a management network connected to every device in the server environment. Management agents running on servers gather performance information from these components for reporting and trend analysis.
This type of enhanced monitoring and reporting will provide a more in-depth understanding of the utilization and performance of the National server-based computing infrastructure.
The customer has access to these utilization and performance reports via the GlidePath Portal on the Internet.
